Digging for a Cure

Poly’s Girls Varsity Volleyball team participated in honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting a DIG PINK game last week against Rio Hondo Prep. It was more than just wearing pink DIG PINK jerseys and hanging pink signs in the gym. The team partnered with the Sideout Foundation to help raise funds for metastatic breast cancer research and treatment. The goal of the foundation is to “help breast cancer patients spend more time with loved ones.” They not only fund research, but the foundation also conducts original research. The team sold DIG PINK t-shirts and proceeds from the t-shirt sales went towards their campaign. The combination of shirt sales and private donations has helped the team reach this year’s campaign goal of $2,000. Coach Kat Damasco said, “Thank you to everyone in our community who has contributed to the cause. This DIG PINK game not only brings awareness to breast cancer, but also helps us honor all who have been affected by breast cancer.”
