PolyToday: Happy Anniversary, Poly!

On October 10, 1907, Poly opened its doors as the first independent, coeducational day school. Just 106 students were enrolled that first year compared to 874 today (kindergarten students from 1908 are pictured). From the Poly100 book, celebrating Poly's centennial, "Polytechnic Elementary School aimed to provide a superior education for young students, one that would embrace Miss Pease's belief that children needed learning beyond textbooks. Academic excellence was a hallmark of the school from the beginning, and teachers used novel approaches in many subjects."
