First Football Game in the Rio Hondo League

On October 1, Poly’s Varsity Football team will play in its first-ever competition as a member of the Rio Hondo League. Previously, Poly Football was a member of the Prep League. However, due to the league’s many changes in other participating schools, Poly has now moved to the Rio Hondo League. In its inaugural game, the Panthers will host the Titans from San Marino under the lights on the field of South Pasadena High School.

Before leaving for the Upper School Outdoor Education trips, the team earned a huge 43-13 win over Glendale High School. Coming back from trips week is challenging for all teams, but this year Coach Chris Schmoke wanted to make sure the ball kept rolling. In order to keep the momentum going, the team was assigned workouts during the trips week in an effort to keep them physically prepared. They have been working hard all week to be mentally and physically ready for this match-up.

Coach Schmoke has studied San Marino and said, “San Marino has thrown the ball quite a bit this year so I expect to see the ball in the air and a bend but don't break defensive scheme as they run an even front and are often in a cover 3 zone. Their QB (#6) is both an accurate passer and good scrambler so we will need to corral him along with #10 and #5 who are their big playmakers on both sides of the ball.” He predicted the Panthers will bring “energy, enthusiasm, and effort! I hope that you will also see a team executing at a high level.”

Help bring the energy and enthusiasm to the game tonight. Wear your orange and cheer on Poly Football tonight at South Pasadena High School. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
