Poly’s Cross-Country Team Opens with a Breeze

Last Friday, Poly’s cross country team competed in the Asics Cool Breeze Cross Country Invitational held at the Rose Bowl. Head Coach Rick Caragher said, “Friday marked the opening of our season, the first interscholastic cross-country race after a nearly two-year hiatus... and the student-athletes embraced the moment."

The Poly ninth grade girls team finished third in the ninth-grade race with 20 schools represented. Individually, ninth-grader Stella K. ’25 finished third in her race and ninth-grader Simon Z-G ’25 finished fifth in his race. Other medalists, in addition to Stella and Simon, included ninth-graders Catherine S. ’25 and Daniel Z. ’25. The fastest Poly boy of the day was junior Adrian L. ’23 (17:23) in the varsity race. Our second fastest girl was junior Phoebe S. ’23.

"Other highlights included our kids competing again, racing under the lights at the Rose Bowl, seeing our kids wear masks (except during the races) without reminders, and watching our runners high-five with competitors after epic battles in the final stretches of races,” said Rick. Congratulations to Poly's harriers!
