Poly Welcomes New Girls Basketball Coach

It is with great pleasure and excitement the Athletics department announces its newest member of the coaching staff, Coach Andrew Bencze. He will take over the girls basketball program starting with the 2021 summer girls basketball program.

Coach Bencze has just concluded his first year teaching history at Campbell Hall where he will continue to teach in the fall. Prior to teaching at Campbell Hall, he was at Providence High School for 30 years as a teacher, coach, and athletic director. He comes to Poly with a career record of 474-198 over 24 seasons of coaching girls basketball and will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and wisdom to the Poly program.

When asked what his favorite aspect of coaching is, Coach Bencze replied, “I love the team aspect of the sport—creating a group of athletes who sacrifice individual needs for the group and come together to pursue their goals. I also love to see my athletes improve, learning what it feels like when hard work pays off.”

Coach Bencze is excited to bring his core values of community by creating a tight family unit, best representing Poly, and encouraging communication between parents, players, and the school.

When asked what attracted him to Poly, Coach Bencze replied, “Poly is a school that I’ve competed against, and I’ve always felt like we share the philosophy of creating a great experience for student-athletes. I have encountered friendly staff who are leaders in the community and top-notch facilities.”

Athletic Director Steve Beerman says, “We are excited to have Andrew join the coaching staff. We are lucky to have his knowledge, experience, passion, and his similar philosophies.”

The Athletics department looks forward to his positive impact and how it will help the girls basketball program grow and flourish.

Welcome to Poly, Coach Bencze!
