Boys Basketball Takes Home the Championship

Last night, Poly’s boys basketball team played for the 2021 CIF-SS Division 4AA Boys Basketball Championships against the Apaches from Arcadia High School. The gym was loud and electric with fans from both schools filling the stands. It felt very much like a playoff game from years past. Poly was the first seeded team in the bracket making them the favored team, but the Apaches didn’t let that slow them down.

Although Poly had the lead for the majority of the game, Arcadia kept it relatively close. They rallied in the fourth quarter cutting Poly’s lead down to a nerve-wracking five points with only seconds left on the clock. As the clock ticked down, Poly maintained their lead and defeated Arcadia 63-54 earning themselves the title of the CIF-SS Division 4AA Boys Basketball Champions!

This is the first championship title for the program since 1995. They now have their sights set on the CIF State Playoffs which start next week. State playoff brackets will be released on Sunday, June 13. After winning their division, Poly has a good chance of being the home team in their first round of play set for Tuesday, June 15. Keep your eye out for details.

Congratulations to coach Brad Hall ’73 and his squad.
