Athletics Honors Its Senior Athletes

Last week, as the academic year was winding down and the campus was bustling to prepare for socially distanced promotions and graduations, Athletics hosted its annual year-end event. The Senior Sports Awards is an opportunity for the Athletics department to recognize and honor its senior athletes. This is an event where coaches briefly speak about senior athletes who elect to be spoken about. It is also an opportunity to announce and honor the Scholar-Athletes of the Year, Craig Sweeney Award recipients, as well as the girl and boy Athlete of the Year. There was some semblance of normalcy as this event was held in Garland Theater, as it had been in previous years. The difference this year was that only the student-athletes were allowed to attend in person. Parents and family members watched the livestream of the event online.

The Scholar-Athletes of the Year awards recognizes those seniors who were able to maintain an exceptional grade point average while being able to compete at the Varsity level, truly embodying the Poly student-athlete spirit. The recipients this year were Lauren K. ’21 and Jack D. ’21. The Athlete of the Year award recognizes those athletes for their outstanding athletic ability and also participating in multiple Varsity teams. This year, Poly recognized Talulla S. ’21 and Connor B. ’21. The Craig Sweeney Memorial Athletic Award recognizes a senior who participated in more than one season of sports during his/her senior year and exemplifies leadership to others in sportsmanship, integrity, and enthusiasm in their field of play. This year, Audrey K, ’21, David M. ’21, and Olivia S. ’21 received this award.

Congratulations to these award recipients, and thank you to all those in the class of 2021 who have made contributions to Poly Athletics these past four years! You may view the Senior Sports Awards here.
