Student-Athletes Representing Poly in Individual Events

This year of sports has been far from traditional. The consolidated season and the abridged schedules have made student-athletes choose not only between sports, but also between sports and other extracurriculars. This has decreased the number of participating student-athletes. However, despite the smaller sizes of teams, a handful of student-athletes have earned themselves the opportunity to represent Poly in CIF individual events.

To start the individual events is Poly’s senior swimmer Katie H. ’21. Katie will be representing Poly in the 2021 CIF-SS Division 3 Swimming & Diving Championships. She competed in the swimming and diving prelims last Saturday, May 23, and qualified by placing eighth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.00 as well as seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.83. This earned her a spot in the finals that will be held this Saturday, May 29 at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. You can find the live results here

Also on Saturday, May 29 is the second day of the CIF-SS Badminton Individual Championships. Poly’s William W. ’21 qualified to compete on the second day of the tournament. Last Saturday, Poly sent six student-athletes to compete in the prelims, two in the boys singles competition, one pair in the boys doubles competition, and one pair in the mixed doubles competition. After a day of tough competition, William moved on and advanced to day two of competition. He will be representing Poly in the boys singles competition as he plays for fifth in CIF Southern Section at Arcadia High School. You can find the badminton draws here

Poly junior Henry H. ’21 will be playing for Poly in the CIF-SS Golf Individual Regionals Tournament on Wednesday, June 2 at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks. Henry competed in the Prep League tournament where he shot a 79 and finished in third place, qualifying him for the CIF-SS Individual Regionals. From there, the top 28 individual players will advance to the CIF/SCGA Southern State Regional Championship held on June 10. Click here for the complete golf playoff bulletin.

Three members of Poly’s track and field team will don their orange and white in the CIF-SS Division 4 Track and Field Prelims. Prelims will be held on June 5 at Carpinteria High School in Santa Barbara. Those representing Poly will be Kai S. ’22 in the 100m, Henry P. ’23 in the 3200m, and Jonah G. ’23 in the discus throw. See the track and field playoff bulletin here

We wish all of Poly’s individual student-athletes good luck as they look to extend their seasons!
