Boys Varsity Basketball Clinches League Title

Poly’s Boys Varsity Basketball had a great game against Chadwick outscoring the Dolphins in the first three quarters on Tuesday. At one point, Poly led by a margin of 24 points. Chadwick made one last push in the fourth quarter putting up 20 points, but it was too little too late. The Panthers defeated the Dolphins 71-58 earning Poly the title of Prep League Champions.

Coach Brad Hall recalls, “The Chadwick game was a fun way to clinch the league championship…The team worked hard on defense and shared the ball on offense. Six players scored between 9-13 points.” Junior Jack W. ’22 came away with the game high of 13 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Senior Dimitri M. ’21 had an outstanding defensive game contributing three defensive rebounds and two blocks while adding 11 points of his own.

The Panthers celebrated their three seniors before the game. This was the last senior celebration of the spring season, marking the end of the regular season. Just as the spring season had a rolling start, it was a rolling finish with some league teams having already concluded not only their regular season but their playoff run, while others were just wrapping up the regular season.

Poly boys basketball is undefeated in the league 5-0 and 10-2 overall. They will conclude their season Friday night, 5/21 against rivals Flintridge Prep, at Flintridge Prep. In their first meeting, Poly beat Prep 55-40. It will be an exciting conclusion to the regular season. Coach Hall says, “Since the league championship and a probable #1 seed in the CIF playoffs is secured, tonight’s game will be a great opportunity to have fun and work to get a little better as a team.”

The boys basketball league title tallies up one more league title for the season joining boys soccer and boys swimming. Their next stop is the first round of the 2021 CIF-SS Division 4AA Boys Basketball playoffs. Draws come out on Sunday, May 23 on the CIF-SS homepage
