Badminton's First Match of the Season: A Coach's Perspective

Assistant coach Ken Mak reports on Poly’s first badminton match of the season:

“Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Poly badminton found quite a few challenges in training, team building, and keeping spirits up. The Poly Athletics Department worked with the Pasadena Health Department while following the CDC safety guidelines allowing badminton players to perform condition training outdoors in the Middle School courtyard in the early season and to practice indoors at Gamble Gym before the season began.

On Tuesday, April 27, badminton season officially began. Poly played against Sierra Vista at home. Scoreboard: Poly 14, Sierra Vista 7. GO POLY!

As the first games of the season, all players were excited and grateful for an opportunity to enjoy the moments to play and compete even without fans, observing mask requirements and other social distancing measures.  The games gave them a chance to socialize, work out, and build confidence.

As the Badminton season commences, I wish everyone well and hope everyone stays safe!”
