Poly Giving Day Success & Thank You!

On April 7, the Poly community came together to raise an unprecedented $481,956 in celebration of Poly Giving Day. This is the first annual spring Poly Giving Day planned by the Advancement department with the support of volunteers and ambassadors. The funds raised from Poly Giving Day go toward the Poly Fund, which directly supports more than 10 percent of the school’s annual operating budget. Thank you to the nearly 500 alumni, parents, grandparents, teachers, staff, Trustees, and Poly friends who participated as volunteers and donors.

The Poly Fund is crucial to keep Poly safely operating at high academic and programming standards. This is especially true during this prolonged period of COVID-19 when Poly has invested in additional enhancements and incurred previously unforeseen expenses. Months of planning by the Advancement and Communications teams and especially Poly Fund Director Kayhan Ahmadi and Assistant Director Alice Cherry laid the groundwork for this successful Giving Day, as did the seven matching funds which were put forward by generous Poly friends. Volunteers placed countless phone calls, emails, and text messages to encourage others to participate.

On the day of the event, volunteer Ambassadors huddled virtually in a Zoom room making calls and keeping everyone apprised of progress. When a gift was announced, everyone would celebrate. The Poly Community responded with tremendous generosity. Many donors gave in honor of beloved teachers and in remembrance of fellow alumni.

“A theme of the day was that everyone came together in really cool ways,” said Alice. “Volunteers had unique links to find out how much they were individually raising as the day went on. We had a lot of young alumni involved too, more than ever before!”

Poly is especially grateful to all who joined this combined effort, including the ambassadors who worked until the late evening to fulfill all of the remaining matches, as well as everyone who participated.
