Poly Plays Rio Hondo at Rose Bowl Stadium in Rescheduled Football Game

On Thursday, April 1, Poly’s football team will play under the lights at Pasadena’s beloved Rose Bowl stadium. The Panthers will take on football rivals Rio Hondo Prep’s Kares at 7:30 p.m. Due to COVID protocols, no fans will be allowed at the game. After the original game was canceled, both schools worked hard to get their football players back on the field. Rio Hondo agreed to extend their season one more week to play the Panthers and Poly agreed to play on Thursday to make sure Rio Hondo had their entire coaching staff on hand.

Both teams agreed that this game was important to the student-athletes who have been preparing for months. Head Coach Christopher Schmoke said, “Better late than never! Glad to get the opportunity for the kids to play.” Not only is this an opportunity for the football team to play, this game will also feature Poly’s Dance Team who have also been practicing and rehearsing their routines for live performance.

Please note to accommodate both programs, the Poly vs. Rio Hondo baseball game originally scheduled for Friday, April 9 has been postponed to a date later to be determined.
