GIP Event: COVID-19’s Effects on the Environment

April 22, 2021 from 6-7 p.m. via Zoom
With Dr. Paul Wennberg, director of The Linde Center for Global Environmental Science at Caltech

Early last year, COVID-19 changed the lives of the world’s population. Early in the pandemic, as people were under stay-at-home orders, startling photos of pristine cities and their skylines started to appear. People speculated that due to a massive decline in carbon emissions after just a few weeks, the environment was on the mend. After a year of COVID-impacted population, economy, and production, how did this pandemic impact the environment and what do the lessons of the past year tell us about earth’s climate and its potential for recovery and renewal? For this Earth Day event, Dr. Paul Wennberg will update us on what science tells us about our planet’s journey over the last year and will help us sort through fact from fiction. To attend this free event open to all Poly students, personnel, families, and the community, please register here.
