GIA Book Club: Elena Ferrante "The Lying Life of Adults"

Please mark your calendars to join us virtually on Tuesday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m. for a lively discussion of Elena Ferrante's engaging novel The Lying Life of Adults. The newest novel by the pseudonymous author of the Neapolitan quartet explores the refined and the vulgar sides of Naples, Italy. As in her earlier novels, Ferrante explores themes of love, ambition, and friendship in women’s lives. This time she examines them through the eyes of a young girl coming of age in the 90s, filtering the world through a feminist lens. Implicit in this moody, evocative novel is a question: how much has the world really changed for women? If you have time over winter break, you might enjoy reading Trick by Domenico Starnone, a prizewinning Italian writer who is married to Anita Raja, the woman who was revealed to be Elena Ferrante. Now people wonder if Elena Ferrante is all Raja, or half Raja and half Starnone, or all Starnone. Trick is a great, fast read, and translated by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri.
