Middle and Upper School Event: Tuesday, December 15 at 6:00 p.m. RSVP here

Virtual instruction has allowed students to continue learning through a pandemic, but it has also caused a sharp increase in screen time. Poly will host Devorah Heitner, PhD, an expert on young people’s relationship with digital media and technology, as part of our Parent Education Series. She will share practical advice and tips to help your children succeed in the new digital classroom.

Devorah's talk will focus on managing screen time and technology use in balance with social-emotional wellbeing. With many parents wondering, "how much is too much screen time?" and "what do I do now with technology being the only social connection my child has?", her grounded approach will help parents navigate online learning.

Dr. Devorah Heitner is the author of Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in Their Digital World and the founder of Raising Digital Natives. Her mission is to cultivate a culture of empathy and social/emotional literacy. Dr. Heitner’s work has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Fast Company, Wall Street Journal, TIME magazine, and Education Week. She has a Ph.D. in Media/Technology & Society from Northwestern University and has taught at DePaul and Northwestern. She is delighted to be raising her own digital native.
