Student-Athlete Leadership Council is staying busy while at home

The Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC) is not letting COVID-19 stop it from continuing its work in the community. The SALC is divided into three groups; outreach, education, and spirit. The outreach group is working with the first grade teachers to coordinate times for SALC members to have virtual reading times with the first grade students. The education group is still looking to continue its tradition of connecting the rising freshman class with current student-athletes and coaches to give them more information about the high school sports experience. In years past, they have also hosted an event educating the interested families of the Poly community about the college recruiting process. They are planning to move this event to a virtual platform and hope to touch on how COVID-19 has impacted the recruiting process. SALC’s spirit group is continuing as many of its regular activities as possible. They are encouraging student-athletes to continue to gather virtually and post highlights on the SALC Instagram page. They are also exploring ways to honor and celebrate the seniors on the spring teams as they would normally during their senior games. All-in-all, the SALC is working hard and being creative with finding ways to keep the community as united as possible during these challenging times.

If you are an Upper School student interested in being a member of the SALC next school year, please be sure to submit your application soon as the due date is quickly approaching. Applicants can be found in Ms. Williams’ student bulletin.
