PolyToday: A penny for your socks

During a cross-division activity, seventh-graders assisted first-graders this morning as they counted the money raised during their annual penny drive. The students also spent time in the seventh grade classrooms to play addition bingo together. Later this week, first-graders will use the funds to buy socks, underwear, and pajamas for the Kids Kloset at Families in Transition. This community outreach project was started more than a decade ago when Poly teachers read an article about a pair of brothers in the area who could not both attend school on the same days because they had to share clothes. It was suggested that the students collect pennies to purchase necessities for needy families. And so it continues.
