Girls basketball picks up momentum going into annual tournament

Poly’s girls basketball team has had an impressive start. When senior leader Kylie Kishi went down in the team’s first scrimmage against Monrovia High School with a season-ending ACL tear, the team looked to their other senior leader, Keara Caragher. Benefiting from their four returning players, the team also welcomed five new members, including four freshmen. The Panthers have an overall record of 4-0, 1-0 in league after their big victory over Westridge this past Tuesday. This gives the girls great momentum as they enter this year’s annual basketball tournament.

Poly’s boys and girls basketball teams are hosting seven other schools in their annual basketball tournament. This is the boys’ 52nd annual tournament. Tournament play starts today, Thursday, Dec. 12, and runs through Saturday, Dec. 14. The Panthers open up their tournament play this afternoon. The girls take on San Marino High School at 4:30 p.m. in Scott Gym, and the boys will face Gabrielino High School at 6 p.m. in Gamble Gym. It is $5 for tournament admission. See the athletic calendar for more details. Be sure to come out and support your Panthers in their annual tournament!
