Last week in fall sports

Many of our fall teams concluded their incredible seasons last week. The week started with boys water polo beating Downey High School in their first round of the 2019 CIF-SS Division 5 boys water polo playoffs, advancing them to the second round when they hosted Brea Olinda. It was a battle between the two exchanging goals back and forth. However, after four quarters, Brea Olinda came out on top with a score of 10-7, concluding the 2019 boys water polo season. Poly’s girls tennis team also competed in the CIF-SS playoffs in the Division 2 girls tennis playoffs. They first faced Hart High School, defeating them 13-5. The second round, the Panthers were off to Claremont High School, where they took on a very strong and dominant team. The undefeated Panthers experienced their first loss of the season in the second round, dropping to Claremont 3-15. Finally, junior Maddie Kwei, the sole representative of Poly’s girls golf team, became the first girl to compete in the CIF-SS individual championship and SCGA qualifying tournament in Poly’s school history. On the challenging course at the Western Hills Golf & Country Club, Kwei shot a very impressive 81, just two strokes shy of the qualifying score of 79.

Congrats to these teams and individuals on an exceptional season.

The fall season is not quite over. Girls volleyball qualified for the state playoffs, when they will play Santa Fe Christian High School from Solana Beach on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Poly’s cross country team is training for the CIF prelims this weekend. And the top two doubles teams will be representing Poly in the CIF-SS girls tennis individuals tournament next week.
