PolyToday: American Studies

Upper School students are off campus this week, but juniors in American Studies - a combined class of AP English and AP US History - recently began independent reading in small groups. Upper School faculty were invited to read the books and join the small group discussions if they were interested in reading the material. Several teachers opted in last week.
The books on the independent reading list are:
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson
The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman
The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History by Elizabeth Kolbert
Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann
The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander
How to Hide an Empire: A History of the Greater United States by Daniel Immerwahr
The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion by Jonathan Haidt
