PolyToday: Eighth-grade projects

The week following the eighth-grade trip, students worked on their year-end projects. The resulting projects were displayed last night and demonstrated a wide range of ambitions. Purely as an example and not an inclusive list: students planted gardens, painted, wrote songs, learned about making lip gloss, built a homemade trebuchet, and attempted to write a book in seven days. Cooking was a popular option, with presentations including "Too many layers of sugar," five-day meal plan, chemistry and cookies, and Japanese desserts. Eighth-graders also investigated potential careers, shadowing a cardiologist, building a website, and creating a handwashing-monitoring device. Students also took to the outdoors and surfed, hiked, and fished. A bucket list was created for the week, students did environmental work to benefit the Newport Beach community, and volunteered for Families Forward. Two students investigated their "misconceptions about homelessness."
Congratulations to the Class of 2023 as they finish eighth grade. Middle School Honors Day is tomorrow, June 5, at 9 a.m.; Promotion is at 5 p.m.
