First-graders recently visited the Pasadena Courthouse and police station. Students began in the courthouse, where Poly parent Judge Darrell Mavis explained what he does and opened his office and courtroom for the Class of 2030 to tour. Judge Mavis and officers of the court, as well as two attorneys, prepared a mock trial: Goldilocks versus The Three Bears. After the introduction to the legal system from Judge Mavis, first-graders left the courthouse with a much better understanding of our judicial system. Students also enjoyed a brief tour of the Pasadena police station, where they had many of their questions answered about police dogs, helicopters, and being a police officer.
