Panthers participate in winter tournaments

Last weekend the girls Varsity water polo traveled to Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton to participate in the seventh annual Holiday Water Polo Invitational Tournament held by Los Altos High School. The girls played one game Friday night versus Bonita High School with a score of 17-7 and one game Saturday morning against La Habra High School, scoring 10-4 for their pool play matches. Their two dominant victories led them into the playoff rounds. The Panthers first faced Brea Olinda High School, defeating them 12-7 and advancing to the finals round of their bracket, where they faced home team Sunny Hills High School. The game was tight through the first quarter with both teams exchanging goals. By the second quarter, the Panthers started to pull away, extending their lead. At the end of four quarters, the Panthers walked away victorious, defeating Sunny Hills 13-7 and earning the title of tournament champions.

Last weekend the boys and girls basketball teams hosted their annual tournaments. Both teams played excellent tournaments, landing both teams in the finals. Although they fought hard, both boys and girls dropped their games in the finals, losing by only one possession. The girls lost to Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 37-39 due to a buzzer-beating three-point shot. The boys dropped to Pilibos Armenian School 40-43 in a tough back-and-forth battle. Congrats to both team for making it to the finals.

Poly’s girls Varsity soccer played their first two rounds of the Best in the West Winter Soccer Classic, splitting their two games 1-1 and falling to Portola High School but defeating La Serna High School. They will continue play this Saturday, when they face Laguna Hills High School at Portola High School at 9:30 a.m. Visit the Athletic Calendar for details and directions.
