Fall sports with post-season promise
Although the girls Varsity volleyball team is deep into their postseason, every other fall season sport is winding down, setting their eyes on the postseason themselves.
Girls golf finished their season last Monday. Sophomore Maddy Kwei finished the league tournament shooting 73 in 18 holes, placing first and earning herself the title of Prep League MVP. Boys water polo played their final game of the regular season on Tuesday, finishing with an overall record of 14-8. Their postseason is on the fence as they wait for the playoff brackets to be released by CIF tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m., when they will learn if they received an at-large bid into the playoffs.

Girls tennis had an exceptional fall season. They competed in their last match of the regular season defeating Mayfield 11-7. The girls finished undefeated in league with a nine-match winning streak and the title of Prep League champions. They continued their play this week competing the singles and doubles tournaments. Poly’s top doubles team, composed of senior Tara Adarkar and junior Caitlin Wu, took the doubles tournament, earning them the title of league MVPs and a spot in the CIF individuals tournament representing the Prep League as its number-one doubles team. CIF will release the Division 3 brackets on Monday, Oct. 29.
Poly’s football team faces Rio Hondo Prep this evening for the title of Prep League champions. Poly is currently 1-1 in league play, having been defeated by Santa Clarita Christian School, but rebounding the following week dominating Vasquez High School. Poly will travel to Kare Park to face the Kares under the lights at 7 p.m. For details and directions, please visit the Athletic Calendar.
Poly’s cross country team is off to Pierce College to compete in the Prep League cross country finals on Saturday, Oct. 27, for an 8 a.m. race time. The girls have had a strong season and are expected to move on to the postseason after this weekend. The boys team has their eyes set on the postseason as well, provided they run a strong race at Pierce. The boys team will be led by junior Evan Hayes and his veteran experience on this course.
