Dr. Shannon M. Thyne ’85

Dr. Shannon Thyne is the director of pediatrics for the L.A. County Department of Health Services (DHS).

In this role, she is charged with aligning clinical services, optimizing patient access, and fostering a rich educational environment for child health across the DHS hospitals and ambulatory care settings. She is also professor and vice chair of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine and serves as the chief of Pediatrics at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, one of UCLA’s core training sites for pediatrics. As a pediatrician in the safety net setting, Dr. Thyne has focused her clinical care, research, and leadership activities on addressing health disparities through health access, child development, pediatric asthma, and foster care. She received her medical degree from Brown University and completed her residency and chief residency training at UCSF. Dr. Thyne has worked for the L.A. County DHS since 2014.
