Poly welcomes volunteers throughout the year

There are many ways to volunteer for Poly, depending on how much time you have and where you live. We have listed a few opportunities below. For more information or to volunteer, please contact the Alumni Office. Also, if you have other ideas for how you would like to offer your time and talents, please feel free to share your ideas with us for consideration.

Volunteer for the Annual Fund

Alumni, parents of alumni, former faculty and staff, grandparents, and friends work with the Development Office to raise unrestricted funds for The Poly Fund. Together, they raised nearly $3.1 million during the 2014-15 fiscal year. If you have volunteering questions, contact Director of Annual Giving Elizabeth Shdo at 626-396-6337.

Participate in a phonathon

Volunteers reach out to fellow alumni or parents of alumni to make personal connections, encouraging support of The Poly Fund. Phonathons are held on campus and virtually several weekday evenings in mid-October and mid-March. We provide volunteers with lists of past donors, calling scripts, and e-mail templates; a brief training session for first-time volunteers is offered at the beginning of the evening.

Be a member of your reunion committee

As your class prepares to celebrate a milestone reunion, we rely on alumni to help build excitement among the class. Committee members take a leading role in encouraging participation in the reunion giving program and promoting reunion events.

Host an alumni event

Several times throughout the year, the Alumni Association holds social events for alumni, parents, and friends locally and across the country. We are happy to work with you to plan such an event should you wish to open your home or host a Poly function at your office or other institution with which you have a connection.

Serve on the Alumni Board

Members of the Alumni Board are ambassadors for Poly and support alumni involvement in the life of the school. New members are chosen the by the board’s Nominating Committee each spring. Members are asked to commit to attending board meetings held four times during the school year on Wednesday evenings on campus.

Chaperone an Outdoor Education trip

Join a group of Poly Upper School students for an Outdoor Education trip. Trips typically are scheduled the first week of October.

Speak at a PolyConnect lunch

Visit campus to have lunch with students and talk about your career. Learn more about PolyConnect.

Volunteer to be a mentor

Young alumni and current students frequently ask the Alumni Office for help as they seek to expand their professional networks. When we receive requests for introductions to alumni working in a particular industry, we rely on the information we have in our database to make a connection. You can help us by updating your business information and letting us know where you are and what you are doing, so we can suggest you as a contact for our recent and soon-to-be alums.  Learn more about mentoring opportunities.
