PolyToday: Literacy Week Brings Stories to Life

Poly’s annual Literacy Week was full of surprises, stories, and community spirit. Lower School students were treated to “Mystery Guest Readers” who popped into classrooms to share favorite books, and visiting storyteller Violet Duncan, who brought Native American Trickster tales vividly to life.
A member of the Plains Cree and Taino nations from the Kehewin Cree Nation, Duncan wove humor, wisdom, and performance together, reminding students that stories can both entertain and teach, revealing truths about human nature, consequence, and creativity.
The week culminated in a joyful Fall Festival, where families gathered for food trucks, arts and crafts, performances by budding musicians and the Lower School PEP squad, and, of course, plenty of books. Poly’s own authors joined the celebration, signing and sharing their work as the community wrapped up a week devoted to the power of stories.
