Lower School application process

Steps to apply (grades K-5)

Poly accepts 45 children for our kindergarten class. Grades 1-5 are considered “non-entry” grades and applications to those levels will only be considered if space is available (e.g., through attrition). Children applying to kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2020.

All application materials can be found and submitted online. The online application for the 2020-21 school year will be open in October.

We encourage all families to submit materials early. To help the Admission Office process applications in a timely fashion, your child’s file must be complete by the listed deadline. A completed file contains the following:

Online application
Complete and submit the online application, and pay the $100 application fee.
Required for: All applications for grades K-5
Deadline: Dec. 2019

Teacher recommendations
Teacher Recommendation Forms are requested online. The applicant's teacher will receive a secure link to a confidential recommendation.
Required for: All applications for grades K-5
Deadline: Jan./Feb. 2020

Kindergarten Readiness Screening (through Integrated Learning Solutions)
Schedule your child's kindergarten readiness assessment with Integrated Learning Solutions (ILS). Fee reductions for qualified students are available through ILS. Please refer to this introduction letter and registration instructions for more details about the screening. 
Required for: Kindergarten applicants only
Schedule: All appointments through ILS will take place in January 2020. ILS sends results directly to Poly in February.

Visit day
Kindergarten visits are a required part of the admission process. This casual playdate is an opportunity for us to get to know your child. Please note: We encourage families to sign up early to ensure they get a date that works with their schedule.
Required for: Kindergarten applicants. Applicants for grades 1-5 will be contacted directly when visit days are available for non-entry grades.

Poly asks for reports from the previous school year and first semester reports from the year students apply. The transcript request form can be found online and shouild be signed and given to your child’s current school. Poly requires all transcripts to be sent to us directly by the school.

Parent Statement
We look forward to getting to know you and your child during the admission process. We welcome input from parents through this online form.

Parent Conversation (Optional)
Parents/guardians of Kindergarten applicants who are new to the Poly community are invited to meet with a member of the Lower School Admission Committee. These optional, informal conversations are opportunities to learn about each applicant family's educational aspirations and interest in joining the Poly community.
