Important Information

Family Box Seating

An online request form for a family box seat during Commencement will be sent to families during the week of May 1. Each 10’ x 10’ box seat on Babcock Field will include seating for up to eight guests, and will be distanced from adjacent boxes (informed by LA County’s recommendations on outdoor events). Graduates with more than one primary household can request an additional family box by emailing

Furthermore, we can accommodate guests requesting wheelchair and mobility access with advanced notice. From all received RSVPs, family box seat assignments will be made through a random drawing during the week of May 9.

Please note that all participating Poly parents, family members, and graduates must adhere to Poly’s health and safety protocols informed by recommendations from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. More information will be shared with families as we draw closer to Commencement activities.

Commencement Attire

  • Navy Commencement gown with orange and white graduation cords, provided by Polytechnic School. Commencement gowns need to be returned at the end of the ceremony. Commencement gowns are worn over either slacks and shirt or a dress.
  • Please, no sunglasses, gum-chewing, flower leis, flowers in the hair, or cameras during the ceremony.

Commencement Photography and Video

To allow families to enjoy the celebration, the Communications Department will be taking photos of Commencement, including seniors receiving their diplomas, and will make them available on the photo archive on MyPoly. In addition, Poly will live stream Commencement and provide a link to graduates to share with families not able to attend the event.

Parking and Accessibility

Parking will be available in Garland Lot and the underground parking garage on the North Campus, accessible from Wilson Avenue. Information on how to request a handicapped parking space will be provided during the week of May 23.

Commencement will begin promptly at 6 p.m, so please allow time for parking, the check-in process, and finding your family box seat on Babcock Field. We ask that you kindly help us to be good neighbors by obeying all traffic laws and by not parking on the adjacent residential streets. We also ask that you share this information with family members who will be attending.

Diploma and Program

In early April, seniors received an email through which they confirmed the spelling and pronunciation of their names to be used for all Commencement-related materials and activities.

Commencement Invitations

Each student will receive five complimentary printed invitations. If you wish to order additional printed copies ($1.75 each), you may do so online at PolyPay by Sunday, May 1.

Please note: While we are working to get all additional announcements ready for distribution, we may experience some shipping delays. Thank you for your patience.

Class of 2022 Time Capsule

Each graduating class at Poly creates a time capsule in the form of a trunk filled with memorabilia from their time at Poly. The Class of 2022 will open its time capsule at their 10th reunion in 2032. Both seniors and their parents are encouraged to contribute items for the time capsule: school or family photos, letters from parents to students, newspaper articles, prom mementos, etc. The school will include a copy of the senior video and other items associated with the class as a whole. Students and/or parents can put together items and the student can drop them off with Mr. Livingston anytime before the end of their senior year.
