Winter break wins for boys soccer

Before the new year, the boys soccer team played in the three-day Ontario Christian Christmas classic. The Panthers had a good tournament despite having only 13 players available. They opened up the tournament facing Grace Brethren High School. At the end of regulation, the score was 0-0 forcing a round of penalty kicks. Poly defeated Grace Brethren 4-3 in PK’s with senior Zealand McLean driving home the winning kick. Later that day, Poly faced Granite Hills, to whom they fell 0-3. The next day, the Panthers faced host school Ontario Christian and defeated the Knights 4-1. Senior Matt Alison had a hat trick and the fourth goal from sophomore Alec Walsh. Poly finished off the tournament holding Rowland Heights scoreless at 1-0. The Panthers took fifth place of 16 teams with a record of 3-1, and McLean was named to the all-tournament team. Today they travel to Whitsett Fields Park to face Oakwood School at 3:30 p.m. Check the Athletic Calendar for details and directions.
