Leadership, resilience, and empathy all start within the self. During these formative years, many students experience difficulty in constructively communicating or recognizing their emotions, and many struggle with a sense of identity and character. Learning to overcome these obstacles can have a serious impact on an individual's quality of life, future careers, and, most importantly, the quality of the communities that they build and participate in out in the real world. There are many available tools that can help students overcome these difficulties and gain the life-long skill of managing themselves. Building on an empathetic growth mindset attitude, this course will introduce a breadth of strategies that empower students to have more self-awareness and equip them with a wide array of tools for self-care, empathetic conflict management, and communicating their emotions. Fusing various perspectives and conclusions from the worlds of self-help, mindfulness, entrepreneurship, and psychology, the instructor will lecture and introduce new perspectives and exercises that guide students to lead themselves through a reliable process of dealing with adversity in both their inner and outer worlds.
