Upper School Application Process

Steps to apply (Grades 9-12)

1. Open house reservations can be made on our admission portal for entry into the 2017-18 school year. Open house dates are listed below. 
 
2. Please access our admission portal, complete and submit the online application, along with the (non-refundable) $100 application fee. The Upper School application deadline is Jan. 6, 2017. Supplemental forms are due Jan. 13, 2017.  Fee waivers for qualified applicants are available by contacting the financial aid officer at 626-396-6326.

3. Register online to take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Students applying to Polytechnic School must take the exam on or before Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 and may take it at any available site. Please designate that Polytechnic School is to receive the exam results by entering our code, which is 052402. While Poly requires the ISEE, the results are only one factor considered during the admission process. Poly encourages students to take the exam only once during the application season. Should we recieve more than one score report for an individual, only the first set of results will be considered.

4. Once applications are submitted, you will receive an email prompting you to schedule your Visit Day in the admission portal. The Visit Day consists of group observations during classes specifically designed for our applicants, one-on-one interviews, and a tour of campus. Please note: The sooner you submit the application, the more flexibility you will have in scheduling a Visit Day on the Admission Portal. Please do not wait to schedule your Visit Day!

5. Teacher Recommendation Forms are now completed online. Applicants will request recommendations from a current Math and current English teacher through the admission portal. Teachers will receive a secure link to a confidential recommendation form. If the applicant does not have two different teachers for these subjects, they can request forms from another current teacher or the previous year's teacher. Forms should be completed by Jan. 13, 2017. 

6. Administrative Recommendation Forms are now completed online. Applicants will request recommendations from their current principal, head of school, or division director through the admission portal. Administrators will receive a secure link to a confidential recommendation form. Forms should be completed by Jan. 13 2017.  

7. Complete the Parent/Guardian section of the Authorization for Release of Student Records (refer to the Supplemental Forms on the admission portal) and give the form to the applicant’s present school. Official records, including a first semester transcript for the 2016-17 school year, should be sent directly to the Polytechnic School Admission Office. These records are due by Jan. 13, 2017. 

8. Applicants must complete the Upper School Applicant Information Sheet (refer to the Supplemental Forms on the admission portal) and return to Polytechnic School a week before their assigned visit date.
